Biography

Michaela Schrage-Frueh studied German, English and American literature at Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz (1992-1999) and at University College Galway (1994-95). From 2001 to 2012 (and September 2017- February 2019) she was Lecturer in the Department of English and Linguistics in Mainz, where she was awarded her doctorate in 2003 and taught classes on English literature from the early modern period to the present. Before taking up a position as Lecturer in German at NUI Galway in May 2017, she spent five years as DAAD-Lecturer at the University of Limerick (September 2012-August 2017). She is the author of two monographs, Emerging Identities: Myth, Nation and Gender in the Poetry of Eavan Boland, Nuala Ni Dhomhnaill and Medbh McGuckian (WVT, 2004) and Philosophy, Dreaming and the Literary Imagination (Cham: Palgrave Macmillan, 2016). She is a founding member of WARN (Women and Ageing Research Network; https://womenandageing.wordpress.com/) and a member of the Network of Cultural Dream Studies (http://www.culturaldreamstudies.eu/). Since March 2019 she is a research member of the Gender-Net Plus ERA-Net project "MASCAGE - Gendering Age: Representations of Masculinities and Ageing in Contemporary European Literatures and Cinemas".
