Biography

Adeline is a Senior Lecturer and Head of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, National University of Ireland, Galway.  She holds a Bachelor of Nursing Studies, Master of Medical Science (Nursing) and a PhD (Nursing).  She has worked in nursing education for over 21 years and in NUI, Galway for the past 15 years.  She is a registered general nurse and registered nurse tutor and has worked in acute and older peoples’ services, including two years working in long-term care settings.  Her research programme focuses on: (1) the quality of life of older people living in long-term care settings with a focus on the concepts of “home” and “connectedness” in long-stay care settings (2) the quality of life and care of persons with dementia and their carers with a focus on psychosocial interventions including reminiscence and life story work (3) the development of structured education programmes (typically these have been used as the intervention in the trials, for example, the PRINCE and DARES trials) and (4) educational research with a focus on learning and teaching strategies.  Her methodological expertise is Straussian grounded theory and qualitative descriptive studies.
