Mr Patrick Farren
Patrick has lectured in the School of Education at NUIG since 1999. During this time he has been involved in bringing about change and improvement in teacher education from H.Dip in Ed. through PGDE and PDE to the current PME. He has made significant contributions to education at Diploma, DIO, PME, M.Ed., M.Litt. and Ph.D. levels. He has lectured and/or given workshops and tutorials in many areas that reflect his research interests and fields of expertise: modern languages, TEFL, teaching English language learners (TELL), bilingualism, critical reflective practice, research methodologies (including action research, practitioner inquiry), active and autonomous language teaching and learning approaches, History and Structure of Education, and Irish educational policy. He has supervised hundreds of student-teachers in the context of their teaching practice all over Ireland. In addition, he has had two years experience as Director of M.Ed. programme (2013-14, and 2015-16).
Patrick was awarded BA from NUIM, BD from Gregorian university, Rome, Diploma from Guildhall School, London, M.Ed from Manchester University, and Ph.D. from TCD.
